MAITLAND, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2007--Galvanon, an NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR) company, announced today that Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) has deployed the MediKiosk patient self-service solution to streamline the patient check-in process. CHS, the largest health-care system in the Carolinas and third-largest not-for-profit system in the United States, implemented MediKiosk at the Carolinas Medical Center One Day Surgery Center in Charlotte, N.C.

MediKiosk, which is built on the Microsoft .NET platform, provides more convenient, streamlined patient check-in and checkout processes by allowing patients to identify themselves upon arrival at the facility, view and confirm demographic and insurance information, electronically sign consent documents, enter medical history information and make copayments.

Patients can choose to interact with the kiosk in either English or Spanish. Patient information flows seamlessly to the hospital's back-end systems, helping reduce administrative costs for the organization and minimizing the risk of error.

"CHS has been pleased with the results of the MediKiosk implementation in our One Day Surgery center. The overall patient experience has been enhanced by reducing the amount of paperwork required at check-in, and a recent survey indicated that 90 percent of patients find the kiosks easy to use," said Chris Johnson, vice president of patient access at Carolinas HealthCare System. "At the same time, our employees have minimized time spent on manual processes and continue to maintain our high standard of customer service."

Galvanon's MediKiosk is part of a comprehensive suite of products that allows hospitals and clinics to provide patient self-service capabilities such as preregistration via the Web, Online BillPay and eClipboards(TM), Galvanon's wireless patient check-in solution.

"Carolinas HealthCare System needed an enterprise strategy for empowering their patients with effective ways to perform self-service and streamline the patient registration process," said Raj Toleti, president of Galvanon. "With the initial deployment of MediKiosk, they have made an immediate impact on the efficiency of the check-in process while establishing a roadmap for providing self-service at multiple touchpoints throughout the health system."

"To succeed in today's health-care environment, leading organizations like Carolinas HealthCare System must adopt technology in ways that promote collaboration across the enterprise and maximize existing IT investments," said Steve Aylward, general manager of Microsoft's U.S. Healthcare and Life Sciences Group. "By utilizing Galvanon's MediKiosk in combination with Microsoft technologies, Carolinas HealthCare System will be able to enhance patient satisfaction, increase efficiency and reduce costs."
