DAYTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2005--Ukrop's, an innovative family-owned 30-store supermarket chain based in Richmond, Va., has upgraded its data warehouse from Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR), to help drive the retailer's strategic marketing initiatives. The new system will also act as a repository for transaction log data and support the targeted marketing initiatives.
Ukrop's was facing storage capacity issues, and the process of storing, retrieving and analyzing data had become inefficient. The new Teradata(R) technology will increase the retailer's storage capacity by 750 percent while simultaneously lowering the company's overall IT budget and expanding the versatility of the system.
"Teradata is a cost-effective way for a grocer of our size to overcome any IT infrastructure challenges and provide our customers with the services they want. The system will help us improve our one-to-one marketing activities, empower our category managers and store managers with accurate data, and deliver higher value to our customers," said Chellam Manickam, vice president of IT at Ukrop's. The Teradata system will also accommodate a move to zone pricing, Manickam added.
In addition to the new hardware and supporting software, Ukrop's is retaining Teradata's professional and customer services to assist with the installation of the technology.
"Ukrop's is well known in the supermarket industry as a thought leader and a formidable marketer that uses technology to support the abundant talent of its managers. Teradata helps provide those managers with the information they need to make better decisions and do their jobs better," said Rob Berman, vice president of retail at Teradata.
